Loss of a student, updates to follow

The following is the email sent from Vice for President Student Affairs and Dean of Students Karla Carney Hall at 6:30 p.m on Sunday March 4, 2012.

It is with great sadness that I inform the IWU community of the loss of Brandon Landau, a first-year student from the Bronx, NY.  He died early Sunday morning while attending a weekend event in northern Illinois.  I know you will want to join me in extending our deepest sympathies to the Landau family for their loss.

Brandon lived in Gulick Hall, was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity and worked at Tommy’s. The Division of Student Affairs staff is meeting with members of Sigma Pi at their chapter house tonight at 7:00 PM.  A similar meeting will be held at Gulick Hall at 8:00 PM.  Students Affairs staff, including the Office of Counseling and Consultation and the Chaplain’s Office will attend both meetings to offer support.

University Chaplain Elyse Nelson Winger invites the campus community to gather at Evelyn Chapel on Monday between 11:30am and 1 pm for a time of prayer, reflection, and remembrance.  You may come to part or all of this gathering. Chaplain Winger will also be available for conversation throughout the day and by appointment throughout the week.

We will keep you advised about the Landau’s wishes for celebrating Brandon’s life.
