Ask Anna: Spice things up

Q: Dear Anna, I’m looking to do something special for my significant other to spice up our Valentine’s Night. Any suggestions?

A: One of the best ways to create an everlasting, romantic Valentine’s memory is to end the holiday with a bang. But you want to get it right – since you’ve really only got one shot tonight – while still doing something new, inventive and special.

First thing’s first. Don’t get too crazy with it. You want to do something that’s going to make your beau happy, not scar them for life.

Don’t show up to their apartment with a box of chocolates and a ball gag and whip. You might make some everlasting memories, but not the kind they’ll be fantasizing about years down the road.

Unless you already know they’d be down for some BDSM, stick to something simple and surprise them instead with a box of chocolates and a blindfold. Treat them like you appreciate them; if you want them to feel special, give them some special attention.

Buying yourself some sexy lingerie is sure to fire things up, but again – don’t go too overboard. If you come out dressed as the cliché sexy French maid, you may be met with laughs instead of standing ovations.

Role playing can be fun for some couples, but often it just ends up being a strange, awkward situation with ill-fitting costumes and embarrassing attempts at foreign accents. Then again, this might end up being the happiest memory you share from the night – the simple, silly moment full of honest laughter.

If you feel like dressing up, get something that’ll make you feel confident and comfortable. Wanna be bad? Fix up the costume with a garter belt and some thigh highs. Feeling innocent? Pink and lace will do you just fine.

As long as you’ve got something that’ll make you feel more special and sexy than your general, every-day non-matching bra and underwear set, you’ll make your partner feel special too.

If you really want to pull out all of the stops, you can plan ahead of time. Do something that you know will make your boo happy. Clean the house, buy some candles and draw a hot bath for the two of you when they get home. Being romantic doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend a lot of money or do something super out of the ordinary.

But, if you’re looking for out of the ordinary, why not try your skills and choreography and do a strip tease to one of their favorite songs. You might impress the two of you with your flexibility.

And, of course, don’t forget that Valentine’s Day is all about the chocolate – so you can always use that.

If you’re looking to spice up your Valentine’s Day heart-to-heart time with your lover, make sure you don’t go overboard with the festivities and end up turning the night into a memory you’d prefer to forget.

Valentine’s Day is more than a day of sexual exploration. It may be a Hallmark holiday, but it’s still a great opportunity to have uninterrupted, quality time with your beau.

So do whatever makes you comfortable and makes the two of you feel appreciated by each other, and you’re sure to end your Valentine’s Day with a smile.
