Find your new favorite brunch spot at The Coffeehouse

Calling all vegan and vegetarian brunch lovers–Uptown Normal has just the place for you. The Coffeehouse (also called The Coffeehouse and Deli) is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch.

Started in 1996, The Coffeehouse provides a cozy and calming place for you to study, get coffee or just  hang out with friends. Since it’s in the heart of Normal, you’ll find it bustling. But don’t worry, the people who work there are willing to help and  make your experience as enjoyable  as possible.

When you first walk in the door, you’re greeted by various types of seating, warm lights, plants and art on the wall. When you get to the counter to order, you’ll notice a worldwide selection of drinks to choose from. Their menu, which only serves vegan and vegetarian food, has a large variety, including pancakes, French toast, scramblers, burritos and burgers. And food is on the cheaper side, typically  less than $10.

ISU student Liliana Terlep said that she really enjoyed the corner that had couches, books and games, and she could see herself studying there. Terlep said that she “really enjoyed the cozy feel of the café” and that they had indoor and outdoor seating. She commented on their pastries, saying that she really enjoyed them, as well as their breakfast potatoes. Maggie Brown, another ISU student, said that she “loved the quieter, homey vibe,” which is just what The Coffeehouse offers.

If you need a place to unwind, hang out with friends or study, you should check The Coffeehouse out. It’s a place I will definitely be visiting again–I got a chai and some pancakes, and I probably should’ve just ordered one, because the portions were huge. They were incredibly fluffy and flavorful, and the chai was so smooth and had the perfect amount of cinnamon. You can tell that the food was made with love and care. And even if you aren’t vegan or vegetarian, you’ll find some great food regardless.

Go check out The Coffeehouse . It’s only about a 20-minute walk from IWU’s campus, or you could take the green bus line to the uptown station. You won’t be disappointed by the cozy, at-home vibes while enjoying some tasty food and drink.
