Kaylee’s Korner: Josh Fridman dominates rookie awards

Titan’s men’s basketball first-year guard Josh Fridman was awarded the title of D3hoops.com National Rookie of the Year. This is the first time an Illinois Wesleyan Titan has won the honor since D3hoops started awarding it in 2008.

Fridman worked his way into the starting lineup as the team’s point guard in his first season with the Titans. Averaging 9.2 points per game, he dealt out 76 assists against just 41 turnovers. He shot 40.4 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from the three-point arc. Fridman led the team in free throws with a percentage of 88.0.

During IWU’s College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament semifinal game over Augustana, on Feb. 28, he scored a career-high 24 points, aided by a career-high six three-pointers, which contributed to the win and the chance to go to the CCIW Championship.

Fridman was also D3hoops.com Region 8 Rookie of the Year. The CCIW named him First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year, ranking eighth in assists in the conference and first in free-throws.
