On Oct. 20, 2025, the Welcome Center of Illinois Wesleyan University hosted an event dedicated to the field of accounting.
The speaker, Tim Achtstatter, was a 2006 graduate of IWU and is a specialist with many years of experience in the international company KPMG. KPMG is one of the world’s largest audit and consulting firms, part of the so-called “Big Four” along with Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Ernst & Young(EY). It provides professional services in the areas of audit, tax, and business consulting in over 140 countries.
KPMG has over 270,000 employees worldwide, and the company is known for its culture of mentorship, professional development, and support for young professionals.
Tim graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in Accounting and immediately after graduation, he began his career at KPMG, where he worked for over 18 years, from Sept. 2006 to Oct. 2024. From Oct. 2013 to Sept. 2016, he also held the position of Director in the KPMG office in the Cayman Islands.
During the meeting, Tim shared his professional experience, explained the steps he took to get into KPMG, and provided valuable advice to students on how to successfully start their careers at large companies. He also answered participants’ questions in detail about the hiring process, salary levels, and job specifics.
“The best part of my job is interacting with customers,” Tim said at the end of his speech, where he discussed full-time opportunities available for students.
