BSU 90s event

Friday, February 11, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Hansen Student Center 

Black Student Union will host a 90s night of fun, games, and dancing. Advance registration is required to attend and face masks are required. 

 

SOTA presents The Lightning Thief

Friday, February 25 – Sunday, Friday 27

Jerome Mirza Theatre, McPherson Hall 

SOTA will present “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” all weekend. Tickets can be purchased through the SOTA website. For IWU students, faculty and staff, tickets are $5 and general admission tickets are $14. 

 

CAB Mardi Gras mixer

Saturday, February 26, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Hansen Student Center

Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Posse will host a Mardi Gras celebration with a “float” parade and design contest and a king cake tasting.

 

On-campus vaccine clinic

Tuesday, March 1, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Shirk Center

IWU’s School of Nursing will hold an on-campus COVID-19 booster clinic. All doses, including booster shots, will be available of the Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Students can register through the link on MYIWU. 

 

Asian Studies Colloquium series

Guest speaker Joannah Peterson, Assistant Professor of Japan Studies at University of Kentucky, will speak on “Emaki Fashion: The Language of Robes, Fans, and Hair in Pre-modern Japanese Picture Scrolls.”

 

Writing Center “Personal Statements” Workshop

The Writing Center will host a personal statement workshop on Zoom for students are interested in learning how to write for medical field applications. Students should email ascanlon@iwu.edu for the link and passcode. A recording of the event will be available approximately one week after the event by request to ascanlon@iwu.edu.

Douglass Day Transcribe-a-Thon

Monday, February 14, 11 AM – 2 PM

105B in Ames Library

The Writing Center | Tutoring Services will celebrate its third annual Douglass Day. All IWU students, alumni, staff, faculty, and BloNo community members are invited to work on transcribing, taking from written or typed form into electronic form, the work of Frederick Douglass’s contemporaries. This year, the WCTS is specifically looking at a variety of Black activists from the nineteenth century. They plan to serve birthday cake and help with the transcriptions. No prior knowledge of how to transcribe is necessary. Email ascanlon@iwu.edu with questions.

 

Ryan Woodall presentation on language learning

The Language Resource Center will host alum Ryan Woodall, an adjunct professor and multilingual speaker. He plans to present on his language learning trajectory, travels, and career path. The event will be in Spanish and food will be provided. 

Collegiate Choir Performance

The collegiate choirs at IWU are performing in collaboration with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and will present some of their spring music selections.

Campus Safety was asked to conduct a student welfare check.

A fire alarm activation due to smoke generated by a loose belt on a washing machine – there was no fire.

Campus Safety fulfilled a request to jump start a vehicle.

Campus Safety was called to investigate the odor of marijuana on the second floor.

Campus Safety was called after a report of an injury from a fall. 

 

2/5/2022 at 12:55 AM, Ferguson Hall

There was a call to investigate the odor of marijuana on the seventh floor. While there, Campus Safety confiscated a THC vape pen and also  a bottle of hard alcohol.

There was an unauthorized individual inside a residence hall.  Contact was made and the individual was escorted off of campus by Campus Safety.

There was a report of a student transported to a hospital for a non-emergency call by the fire department.

A student requested a ride back to campus from a hospital.
