Women’s basketball crushed their opponents in the St. Norbert Tip-off Tournament kicking off their season 4-0.
This powerful start marks the first time since their 2009-2010 season that the team has gone without a loss over the first four games.
“Going into the game against Calvin, we had built up momentum off our win against Stout the day before,” junior Sam Munroe said.
Leading the Titans in scoring, junior Kendall Sosa and senior Sydney Shanks proved powerful as they racked up 25 and 20 points consecutively.
Battling against the University of Wisconsin-Stout, the Titans initially trailed behind in the first 10 minutes of play missing a few layups.
But a few missed shots in the first didn’t slow the team down, with the Titan quickly making moves in the second period as Shanks went on to steal the ball assisting Munroe for a layup in the paint.
The Titans offense proved assertive throughout the game recording seven steals and 17 turnovers against the Stout Blue Devils.
Moving into the second half the Titans maintained their lead consistently leading 10 points above the Blue Devils with points coming from Riley Brovelli.
Brovelli hit her third straight double-double scoring 18 points throughout the game with 11 total rebounds.
Escaping with a nine-point victory of 84-75 over Stout, the Titans scored 18 of their fourth-period points at the free-throw line.
“The chemistry we have on this team is a huge factor in our success, I am confident for the rest of our season as long as we play the way we have been,” Munroe said.
This chemistry helped push them in their second game of the tournament Calvin University finishing off 60-44 win.
Continuing their success, Shank and Sosa came up on top as the high scorers for the game against the Knights.
Pushing their offense, the Titans completed 14 steals and 19 turnovers in the competition, with Sosa, Shanks and Munroe leading the team with 4 steals each.
Impressive moves throughout the game include Brooke Lansford’s season-high 11 points with three triples made.

IWU’s defense was particularly forceful holding the Knights to 31 percent of the shots taken from the floor and a low 13 percent from beyond the arc.
“We have been working well as a team and fully understanding what each one of us brings to the table. Everyone has been very unselfish and devoted to winning. I think that’s what separates us from other teams,” Sosa said.
Sosa was named the CCIW Player of the Week averaging 15.8 points, six rebounds and three steals per game.
This impressive record has her ranked 14th nationally, and her 13 three-pointers place her at the top of the league.
“I’m ready to see how much this team can grow over the season. We already are close as a team and I think that trend will only continue to improve along with our skills,” Sosa said.
The Titans stay on the road this upcoming weekend as they face off against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on November 23.
