Illinois Wesleyan’s women’s golf team claimed the first-place team title this weekend in the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic tournament, beating out Depauw by three strokes.
The first-place team finish marks the first time the Titans have won their Fall Tournament in 15 years.
After facing Division I competition in the Redbird Invite, the Titans were in shape to take on their home tournament.
Sophomore Gigi Zera claimed individual third place in the tournament, shooting two over on 36 holes, beating her previous record by seven strokes, and earning her first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Golfer of the Week title.
Not far behind Zera, junior Emily Gastru, CCIW 2024 Newcomer of the Year, tied for seventh place with Carthage College’s Lexi Manteuffel.
Gastru ended day one of the tournament tied for second shooting par, thanks to three birdies and an eagle.
On day two, Gastru shot six over, bringing her tournament score to six over par (144).
Rounding out the end of the pack, two-time Academic All-CCIW senior Brooke Erhard and sophomore Grace Fagan tied for ninth place with a 151.
The green and white are enjoying time off as they prepare to travel to the UW-Whitewater Fall Invite in Madison, Wisconsin, Sept. 28-29.
