With Valentine’s Day coming up on Saturday, Feb. 14, you might be looking for something to do with that special someone, your galentines, palentines or maybe you’re just bored.
Whatever the situation is, Bloomington-Normal has plenty of things to do this Valentine’s weekend.
If you’re looking for a nice meal, try Biaggi’s or Destihl Brewery.
Both options have good food for college students on a budget. At 3010 East Empire St. in Bloomington, Biaggi’s is a go-to spot for Italian food. Most dishes land in the $20-$30 range, so dinner would be a little bit of a treat, but not too much of a splurge.
If you want the stereotypical Italian Valentine’s dinner, Biaggi’s is a safe bet. Destihl over at 318 South Towanda Ave in Normal has higher-end pub-style food if you’re looking for a different type of Valentine’s meal.
From burgers and sandwiches to soups and salads, Destihl has a wide variety of good food, most of which is under $30. If you want the steak, you’ll have to spend a bit more, but that’s any restaurant.
Destihl also brews their own craft beer for diners over 21. After dinner, you and your date might want a sweet treat. Whether it’s a dessert or a date of its own, try Theo’s Microcreamery on East Beaufort in Normal for some ice cream.
With nine handcrafted flavors, two rotating non-dairy options and one seasonal flavor, Theo’s has lots of different ways to satisfy your sweet tooth. Instead of food, maybe you want to go see a movie for V-Day.
AMC Normal on McKnight St. has movies running from 1 p.m. into Valentine’s Day evening for less than 10 dollars. Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights,” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, opens
in theaters on Feb. 13 and has been marketed as a great Valentine’s movie for the past few months.
If you want a more old-timey feel for your movie date, the Normal Theater in Uptown is showing classics like “The Princess Bride” and “Casablanca” on the 14th.
Tickets at the Normal Theater cost eight dollars at most. If you really need a break from Bloomington-Normal or IWU’s campus this Valentine’s weekend, or you’re doing long distance with your partner, plan a weekend get away and take the Amtrak.
With a station in Uptown Normal, you could take a trip up to Chicago or Champaign or sneak down to St. Louis.
