The Argus wins big at ICPA conference
On Feb. 20, 2026, three members of The Argus staff, alongside faculty advisor Professor James Plath, attended the Illinois College Press Association conference in Chicago. Schools from all around Illinois attended the two-day conference, which included educational materials regarding the process of editing and creating physical and digital content, critiques for newspapers and websites, and networking opportunities.
On Feb. 21, the ICPA presented awards in over thirty categories in open and divisional categories. Competing in Division D (schools with fewer than 2,300 students), The Argus took home 16 awards, including the two most prestigious awards for Division D, General Excellence (Print) and the Sweepstakes award, which is awarded to the school that gets the most awards on a weighted-average basis.
This is the Argus’ second consecutive time winning general excellence as well. The 16 award mark ties the ’25-26 staff for the third most awards earned in a single year.

Meanwhile, back in Bloomington, the men’s basketball team came back from a lead as large as 19 to win their second consecutive conference title, also in overtime. And just outside Dennie Bridges Court, the track and field teams were claiming their own victories, with the team claiming eight event victories and a third-place finish for the conference meet.
