Sexual Assault Awareness Month events happening this week

IWU will be hosting more awareness events for Sexual Assault Awareness month in the first week of April than in previous years to counter sexual violence on IWU’s campus.

The Counseling and Consultation Services, Dean of Students Office, Peace Fellows, YWCA Stepping Stones and IWU Student Senate will sponsor multiple awareness and fundraising events between April 1 and 5, inviting the IWU community to participate in creating a safer campus.

YWCA Stepping Stones will be tabling in Dugout on Monday and Wednesday of this week, offering information about their resources for survivors of sexual violence, as well as how to volunteer.

The sponsors have also cultivated an awareness panel on April 1 in Young Main Lounge, opening the conversation about sexual assault awareness and the importance of educating college students about consent.

The Peace Fellows will also be sponsoring a charity show event on April 3 in Hansen Student Center, where students and faculty from the IWU community will be performing written works and songs to raise money for Mid Central Community Action – Countering Domestic Violence.

During this week, the Clothesline Project will be displayed in the Eckley Lounge. This installment displays clothes with the accompanied question, “What were you wearing?” a common question survivors of sexual assault are asked to shift the blame away from the assaulted. The Clothesline Project is meant to highlight the fact that sexual assault can happen to anyone no matter what they were wearing.

CCS will be posting triggers warnings about mentions of sexual assault around campus for any content that may be distressing to members of the IWU community.
