Stress-free Reading Day before finals week

By Farah Bassyouni Dec9,2022

Reading day is an important part of Illinois Wesleyan’s final exam week. It’s a day dedicated to giving students time to study before final examinations begin. The last day of classes is today, Dec. 9, and final exams will run from Tuesday, December 13 through  Friday, December 16. Before the start of finals, IWU has a weekend packed with events.

On Sunday, Dec. 11, Campus Activities Board will host a Drawing with Dogs event from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hansen Student Center. It’s their final event of the semester, and it’s dedicated to helping students destress with friendly puppy pals.

The Student Sierra Coalition created a QR code with instructions for a Mindful Microbreak, and students can visit different locations around campus with directions for a mindfulness activity. The activity is available at any time, and the QR code can be found on their flier. They also placed QR codes at three natural areas near IWU: Ewing Parks, The Constitution Trail and White Oak Park. The QR codes at either of the three sites will give students a chance to win a care package.

On Reading Day, the Office of Student Involvement will host a savory and sweet pretzel bar from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and The Office of Diversity and Inclusion will host quiet study hours from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in their respective offices. Sodexo also helps out during finals, and will be having a late night breakfast at 9:00 p.m. on Reading Day. They will also host a peanut butter and jelly sandwich study break on the first night of finals at 9:00 p.m.

Additionally, students can still go to the writing center on Reading Day and schedule appointments with writing center tutors during finals week.
