The Frappe Foodie: Your Favorite Coffeehouse Drinks for Less

Let’s face it: we all depend on a daily dose of caffeine to keep us running throughout the day. For me, and millions of others, that no-so-secret weapon is coffee. I’ll take a macchiato, I’ll take it black, frankly, I’ll take it any way, as long as there is caffeine involved.

But one of my favorite ways to enjoy coffee is with a frappé (commonly referred to as Starbuck’s trademarked “Frappuccino”)—a rich, sweet and creamy coffeehouse drink.

Making a frappé at home is much simpler than you may think, and is a great way to mix up your coffee routines. Not a coffee fan? No problem—coffee-free versions are equally satisfying and indulgent.

Check out my top three favorite frappé recipes, all reminiscent of your favorite coffeehouse drinks. They take less than five minutes to whip up, and they cost much, much less.

Caramel Frappé:

You’ll need:

1 cup cooled coffee

1 cup milk

cup caramel sauce

2 T sugar

1 t. chocolate syrup

¼ t. vanilla

2 cups ice

In a large measuring cup, combine caramel, sugar, chocolate syrup and vanilla. Stir until smooth. Combine all ingredients in a blender; blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds. Serves 2.

 

Cinnamon Creme Frappé:

You’ll need:

1 cup cooled coffee

1 cup milk

1 T caramel sauce

2 T sugar

½ t. chocolate syrup

½ t. vanilla

2 cups ice

In a large measuring cup, combine caramel, sugar, chocolate syrup and vanilla. Stir until smooth. Pour mixture into blender, along with coffee, milk and ice; blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds. Serves 2

 

Double Chocolate Chip Frappé:

You’ll need:

1 cup milk

¼ cup chocolate syrup

cup mini chocolate chips

½ t. vanilla

2 cups ice

Combine all ingredients in a blender; blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds. Serves 2.
