The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team is starting to find their stride— and it couldn’t come at a better time.

After sweeping North Park for a conference victory, the Titans had an impressive showing at the Translyvannia University hosted tournament in Lexington Kentucky, propelling their overall record to 12-10.

In a back-and-forth first game, the Titans were able to come away with the victory against host Transylvania in five sets.  This marked their fourth straight win, which is a season best.

First-year trio of Kyleigh Block, Maisy Bowden and Anne Cummings led the way, accounting for a combined 36 kills.  Cumming and Bowden added four blocks apiece.

First-year Nicole Bing led the Titans with 27 assists and 13 defensive digs while Sophomore Colleen Rynne added 20 set assists and 10 defensive digs.

On Saturday, the Titans battled a strong Asbury team (25-6) to four sets, but came away on the losing end.

First-year Maisy Bowden led the offensive charge with two blocks, while senior Maddie Greybar added nine kills, contributing 10 digs as well.

Sophomore Colleen Rynne had 21 set assists and Bing had 20.  They moved on from the loss in quick fashion, as they needed to, defeating Otterbein and leaving Kentucky on a high note.

Block had an outstanding all around game, notching 15 kills and 14 digs while Greybar provided 12 kills and three blocks.

Senior Kinzie Schweigert had five kills with four blocks.

Ryne and Bing had 20 and 18 assists respectively to help fuel the offensive power. Block’s outstanding play won her “Defensive Player of the Week” for volleyball in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.  In their past four games she has average 3.12 digs per set.

The Titans will look to maintain their strong play as of late as they head to Wheaton, Illinois to take on conference rival Wheaton College.
