CCIW remains haunted by dominant Titans volleyball team

The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team secured a five-set victory against Augustana College on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, clinching at least a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Regular Season Championship. This marks the Titans’ sixth CCIW title,their first since 2021. The win also guarantees Illinois Wesleyan the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the upcoming conference tournament.

Led to the win by senior Abby Erdman and fifth-year Jordan Pierce, both recording double-doubles, the Titans upped their record to 16-6 overall and 7-0 in CCIW play. Erdman contributed 22 assists and 13 digs, while Pierce added 24 assists and 12 digs. Junior Taylor French led the offensive charge with 22 kills, and sophomore Cailin Shannon sealed the match with a kill, her eighth of the night.

Despite dropping the first and fourth sets, Illinois Wesleyan dominated the second and third sets, including a .400 hitting percentage in set two. In the decisive fifth set, the Titans surged ahead. With Shannon’s match-clinching kill, they closed out the victory 15-9.

Illinois Wesleyan hits the road to face Carroll for its final match in CCIW play on Tuesday, Oct. 29 before hosting No. 8 WashU at the Shirk Center for the Halloween Costume Contest / Canned Good Trick or Treat Night at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
