Football struggles against dominant NCC on Senior Day

Illinois Wesleyan’s senior day football game was a grim one. The Titans lost 68-3 against the No. 1 ranked North Central Cardinals. IWU is the first team to score points against NCC in four weeks. Those points came from a 24-yard field goal in the second quarter.

NCC’s defense stifled any hope for the Titans’ passing game. Sophomore quarterback Jay Lemenager went 10 for 21 on the day for 71 passing yards. Senior wideout Charlie Hamilton caught seven of Lemenager’s ten completions and gained 67 yards on the catches.

The running game was a bright spot for the Titans. Junior running back Seth Albin mustered 94 yards on 13 carries. Albin averaged 7.2 yards per carry on the day.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Green and White could not stop the Cardinals’ run game. NCC earned 452 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

Senior defensive back Anthony Wachal Jr. made 20 total tackles and had another interception in the game, adding to his impressive final season as a Titan.

IWU looks to bounce back in their final game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 12 against Elmhurst University. The Titans are 4-4 in the CCIW this year and look to improve to above .500 before the season ends.
