Global climate strike affects national and local communities

Over 4 million people participated in the global climate strike last Friday, Sept. 20, making it the largest climate rally ever.

Bloomington/Normal participated on a smaller scale, with over 200 people of all ages in the uptown Normal circle.

Illinois Wesleyan students and professors were present in the crowd.

Photographers and cameramen surveyed the mass of people.

Speakers before the march discussed the Green New Deal, individual actions versus systematic change, mindsets, and voting.

The protesters then marched to the Illinois State University campus, shouting “hey hey, ho ho, fossil fuels have got to go” and “respect existence or expect resistance”, among other chants.

The crowd stopped traffic at times and eventually all gathered on the Illinois State University bridge to finish their march.
