IWU track hosts annual two-day Keck DIII Select Meet

The Illinois Wesleyan University Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams hosted the two-day Keck DIII Select Meet on Feb. 3-4 inside the Shirk Center indoor track.

 The Women’s team tallied 52 points garnering a third-place finish, while the men finished in fourth place with a total of 57.5 points. Both men’s and women’s teams from Washington University took home the title. 

Before the competitions began IWU’s track program celebrated 12 senior student-athletes for their hard work and dedication to the team. 

 

On Friday the women completed the heptathlon where athletes from Division I Western Illinois University along with Division III Millikin University, Washington University and Aurora University. 

Senior Kinlee Miller was the lone representative for IWU and claimed first place with a point total of 2667. Miller garnered a pair of victories in shot put (8.92 meters) and long jump (4.95 meters). 

 

Eight different Titans earned a top-10 school mark

 

Senior Davis Nguy etched his name into IWU’s history books when he finished second in the heptathlon event with a total of 4230 points. Nguy’s stellar performance notches him in second all-time for the event. 

The heptathlon records would not stop there as freshman Ashtin Elder and junior Joshua Klein finished fourth (3051 points) and fifth (2900 points) respectively. With their performances, they sit seventh and eighth all-time in total points for the event. 

Third-year Amanda Wilson hit a stellar time of 19:34.66 to win first in the 5000-meter race. Wilson was clear of the field by a minute and 25 seconds. 

Freshman Zack Daniel continues to impress as he earned a seventh-place finish for the men’s mile. His time of 4:21.66 now sits Daniel in sixth place for IWU’s history books. 

In his first race of the event sophomore Alex Harvey ran an eighth all-time best in a preliminary 60-meter race. 

A team composed of junior Kade Murray, first-year Evan Lowder, freshman Seth Hamerski and Harvey garnered a third-place finish for the men’s 4×400-meter relay race. A time of 3:25.89 puts that team in tenth all-time. 

On the field side of the competitions, senior Christian Gatsos sits fifth all-time in the indoor pole vaulting event. Gatsos hit a personal-best 4.55 meters as he garnered a third-place tie. 

Senior Drew Tatlock rounded off the school record holders as he is now in solo possession of fifth place all-time in the high jump competition. A jump of 1.95 meters gave him a third-place finish at the meet. 

IWU will remain at home as they will host the Titan Open on Saturday, Feb. 11. First event is scheduled for 10:45 a.m.
