IWU vaccination rates continue to rise

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reported 267 new weekly coronavirus cases as of October 13. 96 percent of total hospital beds in the county are currently in use and the total number of patients hospitalized for COVID at McLean County hospitals is 28.

MCHD also reported that the rolling 7-day positivity rate is 2.2 percent through October 13. 56 percent of all Illinois residents are fully vaccinated, which is just slightly higher than McLean County which boasts 54.81 percent of the area as fully vaccinated.

Though county cases have risen, October 8 marked Illinois Wesleyan’s fourth week with zero positive cases reported on campus. A positive case has not been reported by IWU since September 14.

The student vaccination rate has also risen to 96 percent as of October 8 which leaves only 69 students unvaccinated out of the more than 1600 on campus this semester. IWU began the semester with 87 percent of Titans vaccinated on campus.

Cases at IWU are determined by positives identified through surveillance testing and symptomatic student testing. Surveillance testing is conducted weekly on Wednesdays for all unvaccinated/partially vaccinated students or in-season student athletes.

Vaccinations clinics will be held next week on October 21 from 10am-3pm at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington and October 22 from 3pm-5:30pm at Heartland Head Start in Bloomington.

Although walk-in appointments will be available, MCHD strongly recommends pre-registration if you require or prefer a specific type of vaccine to ensure its availability during your time slot.
