On October 11th and 12th, people from all over the community will be rappelling off the Marriott hotel in Uptown Normal.
The Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal and The Child Protection Network are sponsoring a major fundraising event in town called Over The Edge: Missions Possible 2019.
Over The Edge is a global rappelling company that helps non-profit organizations raise money and to make a positive impact within their community.
The organization have done thousands of rappels (without any incidents) around the world since 2008 and have raised over $88 million.
They have experienced, trained staff who are in charge of controlling the ropes and ensuring your safety and making sure you have an overall positive experience.
Students from Illinois Wesleyan, Illinois State, Heartland and any other community members can and are encouraged to sign up to fundraise for their chance to rappel.
ISU student and Child Protection Network Student Board Member Dani Lamb explains how individuals can sign up to rappel.
“In order to rappel, you have to raise $1000 for the Boys and Girls Club and Child Protection Network.
You would sign up online at fundrazr.com/MissionsPossible2019.
Once signed up, you can campaign and raise money. There are fundraising tools available as well.”
She also explains how the two organizations are pushing for campus involvement.
“Basically, a Greek organization or any other student organization can sign up as a team.
It will be easier to raise the $1000 dollars this way.
When the $1000 is raised, teams will be able to choose the individual who goes Over The Edge.”
There are also incentives if individuals pass the mark of $1000.
If you get to $1200 you can get a free picture of the individual representing your group rappelling off of the building, and if you make it to $1500, the individuals rappelling have the option of taking a go-pro and keeping the video.”
The Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal Facebook page is also running a contest through the end of September.
If you share their post and tag friends, you will be entered to win a free rappel.
More information for the contest can be found on the Facebook page.
Volunteers are also a big part of this event, so if you’re in need of some volunteer hours this is the perfect opportunity.
