This past week Illinois Wesleyan athletics were in full force with a number of sports competing. Some normalcy came back to IWU with baseball playing their first series per any typical previous year.
The baseball team swept the series against Greenville University 3-0 and outscored Greenville 37-3 in their three games.
In addition to the start of the baseball season, the lacrosse season for both the men’s and women’s teams began. The men were victorious in the season opener against Depauw University 32-7. The women’s team was also victorious in their season opener against Aurora University by a much smaller margin of 9-7.
The men’s tennis team continued their hot streak in their victory against Webster University, winning 8-1 and Illinois College 9-0, but fell to Principia College 0-9 for their first loss of the season leaving them with a 5-1 overall record.
The swimming and diving team both competed in a split CCIW final cup series, and on the men’s side, first-year Ethan Lowder broke an IWU record for the 50yd free at a time of 20.84.
Men’s basketball beat Millikin University 86-71 for their fifth straight win and then fell to North Park in their final regular-season game 74-76 to end with an overall 5-1 record.
The women’s basketball team played two games against North Park and split the dual, losing the first 63-65 but winning the second and last regular-season game 77-61.
Both the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in another triangular meet against Millikin and Augustana for their second to last indoor meet.
The men’s volleyball team won their first-ever match against Rockford University 3-2 but then fell to Fontbonne 0-3 and Augustana 0-3.
