Men’s Golf:
The fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men’s golf team finished second place at the NCAA Division III Preview last Monday, Sept. 23, 2024. The Titans carded a final score of 845 in the 108-hole event, 12 strokes behind third-ranked Emory. The Titans were the only team to have every golfer score under par on day one at the par-72 Midvale Country Club before finishing the event at Cobblestone Creek Country Club. Senior Griffin Pohl led the team with a 211, snagging him an eighth-place finish. Junior Aidan Healy and senior Quinn Clifford each posted final rounds of 74 to tie for 12th at 212, and Junior Juney Bai tied for 18th. No. 1 Methodist placed third (847), and No. 7 Washington & Lee (848) took fourth to round out the event. The Green and White will enjoy some time off before heading to the Broadmoor Country Club for the two-day Wabash Invite in Indianapolis, Ind, starting Oct. 7, 2024.
Cross Country:
The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Gil Dodds Invitational on Sept. 21, 2024, in Warrenville, Ill. The meet included 19 institutions, six from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Senior Annalese Chudy led the women’s team, finishing fourth overall in the 6k with a time of 22:29.3. Chudy’s time was the fastest of any CCIW runner, and she was later awarded her second consecutive CCIW Runner of the Week honor. Freshman Maddie Morgan placed 28th, while juniors Brooke Nazos and Adriana Crabtree finished together in 34th and 35th. The women’s team finished fourth overall, with DePauw University taking first place.
Senior Nick Fisch led the men’s team with an 8k time of 25:59.4, finishing 11th overall. Freshman Jack Thomas and junior Zack Daniel followed with times of 27:04.0 and 27:35.00, respectively, contributing to the men’s eighth-place team finish.
Both teams now prepare for the DIII Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 4 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Women’s volleyball
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s volleyball team split matches during the Aurora Triangular meet on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. In a loss against the UD Spartans, junior Taylor French put down 22 kills, while junior Hannah Tellor and senior Morgan Harrington each set new career highs with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. In the win over the Aurora Spartans, the Titans controlled the stat book, leading in kills (39-23), assists (36-21), digs (47-41), aces (8-4), and blocks (4-2), while hitting .286 as a team. Defensively, the Titans saw another dominant showing from junior Kamryn Boyd, posting 33 digs against Dubuque and 15 against Aurora. The Titans face a tough slate at the Shirk with No. 12 North Park on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and No. 14 Millikin on Friday, Oct. 4. If the Titans continue to play dominantly like they did against the Spartans and the Depauw Tigers, they will make a deep run into the CCIW this year.
