Tributaries is one of the many Illinois Wesleyan student-led organizations. It’s an on-campus literary magazine in pursuit of creative pieces, like poems, short stories, and art submitted by fellow students. They are currently seeking submissions for the October 31 deadline.
Tributaries have been on IWU’s campus for decades. They work with students, giving them the opportunity to become working artists and/or self-publish.
Tributaries also allows students to be on their board of editorials, where students can learn what to look for when saying yes or no to a certain piece. It’s a way for students to be involved on campus in a way that has a lasting impact. How many students can say that they were on an editorial board or their work was accepted to a literary magazine in college?
Without Tributaries, there would be no student-led literary magazine for the creative minds at Illinois Wesleyan, especially one with no cost of submission. This magazine can be a starting point for anyone, not just students with a creative major or minor. Anyone can submit to Tributaries.
Dabbling in art or writing for this organization can help any student move further with their craft. Going as far as submitting to another magazine or the newspaper all because Tributaries gave them a start. Being able to mention on your resume that you were published in your university’s literary magazine is not something future employers tend to overlook.
Tributaries has given the students of IWU a space to freely express themselves and all their views. Only you can know what you are truly feeling until you snap it with your camera, paint it with a brush, or express it through words on a page.
Submitting to Tributaries can bring a variety of opportunities to a student’s doorstep.
All works submitted are guaranteed to be reviewed, and once the board has done so, emails will go out to those whose works were accepted. Don’t be discouraged if your piece doesn’t get accepted, try again next semester.
