Women’s golf ends regular season with silver finish

The Illinois Wesleyan women’s golf team ended their regular season with a close second place finish on April 15-16 at the Pilot Spring Invitational. Bethel University played host to 13 schools for the two-day tournament, including Golf Stat No. 24 Carthage College.

The sophomore power duo of Emma Thorman and Lexi Onsrud led the Titans to a first-place tie by the end of the first day. Thorman tied for second individually, swinging a two-over par 74, with Onsrud’s stroke-76 putting her close behind in fourth.

First-years Macy Ludwig and Jacque O’Neill have also been no stranger to the leaderboard this season. Ludwig posted an 83-stroke game that landed her in 18th place individually. O’Neill nabbed a spot in the Top-25 with an 84-stroke round.

The second day of the tournament saw much of the same, with Thorman and Onsrud leading the charge once again.

Thorman’s two-day total of 155 (74-81) put her in third place individually, falling just behind golfers from Taylor University and Carthage College. Onsrud merged her scores for a total of 156 (76-80) to tie for fourth.

O’Neill pulled out an 80-stroke game to bump her up to 15th individually, while Ludwig fell back to 21st.

The Titans combined for a team total of 642 strokes over the course of two days that pushed them out of their first place tie. IWU took second place, hot on the tail of Taylor University’s 641 strokes. Carthage and Lewis pulled up behind Wesleyan with a third-place tie of 652, while Olivet Nazarene rounded out the Top-5 with 657.

The women’s golf team has now officially closed the spring 2022 season and now await the possibility of post-season NCAA results.
