Titans win in first round of NCAA Tournament
On Friday, Nov. 11 the women’s soccer traveled to La Crosse, Wisconsin for the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Titans only victory of the tournament was against the Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons, in a 5-2 blow-out.
The Titans started off strong against the Falcons when fifth-year midfielder Caelyn Steffans scored a goal in the second minute. Nine minutes in, fifth-year defender Madison Fischer scored her first goal of the season to add to the Titans’ lead.
Sophomore midfielder Liza Matimore assisted senior forward Lauren Shanks in the third goal of the game. Just before the end of the first half, sophomore midfielder Tegan Timerman scored the fourth goal for the Titans.
In the second half of the game Steffans scored the fifth and final goal for the Green and White, her twenty-first of the season, making the score 5-1. The Falcons were not able to bounce back as IWU advanced through the first round of the tournament.
Titans lose to UW-La Crosse to end season
The Titans’ fell short on Saturday Nov. 12 against University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a 0-1 heart wrenching loss.
Less than one minute into the game, the women of UW-La Crosse scored the first and only goal of the game. Throughout the rest of the game Sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Borg racked up seven saves.
IWU finished out the season with an 11-5-3 record (6-1-1 in the CCIW). The loss against University of Wisconsin-La Crosse marked the end of the college careers of Caelyn Steffens, Rachel White, Heather Dietrich, Madison Fischer, Maggie Peters, Riley Haug, Jenna Li and Lauren Shanks.
“This season was by far the most memorable. Being a senior and being able to play my last year of soccer with such amazing women was truly special,” Haug said.
