On one of the first warm days in Bloomington this spring, the Illinois Wesleyan Titans secured a win against the Augustana College Vikings on Sunday, April 13.
The Titans trailed the Vikings 4-2 at the bottom of the second and junior Jack Flagg recorded his third home run of the season, a 371-foot homer, putting the lead within one.
The Vikings were held off by the Titans at the top of the third, and they gained the lead at the bottom of it. Thanks to senior Cade Tomhave’s RBI single and senior Justin Gadomski’s double, the Titans got their first lead of the game, 5-4.
Although the Vikings scored two and the Titans were kept scoreless in the fourth inning, the Titans were just getting ready for an incredible fifth inning.
By the start of the Titan’s offensive run in the fifth inning, they were down 8-5 and knew they had to make a comeback. With Flagg’s second hit of the game, a single down the middle, the Titans were able to bring two to the home plate. And that would set up the energy for the rest of the game.
Illinois Wesleyan got loud and proud in the dugout, so much so the umpire had to stop the game multiple times to tell them to quiet down. But that motivated the Titans even more as they drew up three walks and scored a total of six points by the end of the fifth.
The Titan dugout continued to chant with pride as they ended the fifth with a score of 11-8.
The Titans held on throughout the rest of the game, offensively shutting down Augustana and earning another win in their conference.
