Women’s volleyball preview ahead of conference mashup

Women’s volleyball hopes to keep their undefeated streak alive in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin when they host rival Augustana later this week.

The Green and White bested Augustana during both meetings last season, but Augustana claimed at least one set in both matches, so a fight can still be expected from the Vikings. At time of print, Augustana holds a 1-3 record within the conference.

Maintaining an undefeated 5-0 streak in the CCIW conference, the Titans have seen victory over many formidable ranked opponents, including CCIW rival Millikin and North Park.

The Green and White statistically stand out in the conference, with multiple players appearing in the top-10 stats leaders.

Junior utility Hannah Tellor leads the conference in hitting percentage with a solid 0.371.

Sophomore middle hitter Eleanor Palmer holds the second highest number of blocks, and junior outside hitter Taylor French takes second in the CCIW for both kills and aces.

Junior libero Kannyn Boyd also claims the third spot for digs in the conference.

The mounting success of the Titans has also brought home multiple CCIW awards for the team.

Boyd has been honored twice, bringing home defensive player of the week in week two and week six.

In week three, first-year defensive specialist and libero Alysa lawton claimed her first CCIW honor as defensive player of the week.

Week six delivered a CCIW sweep, with every award going to a member of the Green and White.

As mentioned, Boyd claimed defensive player, French claimed hitter of the week and setter of the week was claimed by sophomore Sophia Feeney.

Most recently, Tellor claimed yet another defensive honor, which speaks to the Titan’s solid defense and cohesion as a team.

French and senior setter Abby Erdman have both claimed Titan history.

French became the eighth player to rack up 1000 kills and 1000 digs, a small group that also includes assistant coach Tyler Brown, from the class of 2019.

Erdman joined the list of players to gain 1000 career assists.

The Titans have an undefeated streak at home this season, and a win against Augustana would likely guarantee the Titans host the CCIW Conference Championship at Dennie Bridges court.

The Titans face Augustana at the Shirk Center on Oct. 23, at 7 pm. Admission is free for students, $3 for children and $5 for adults.
